Sniffles the dog has had a difficult life so far. They left him behind in Puerto Rico, where he was attacked by other stray dogs and developed a wide range of health problems.
However, since he traveled to the US for medical care and a Florida-based animal charity shared his story, Sniffles is starting to recover considerably better and could soon find a home.
It is believed that Sniffles lived in very difficult conditions in Puerto Rico. He contracted multiple parasites, including hookworms and whipworms, and needs dental repair.
What’s more, he no longer has a nose, after he was reportedly attacked by other stray dogs that left him with multiple wounds and other ailments.
After he was discovered by a local animal care group in Puerto Rico, he was eventually adopted by a family in the U.S., where it was believed he could get better medical treatment.
However, his placement did not last long. Sniffles continued to run away, and since he needed constant medical attention, this put him at greater risk.
Ultimately, Poodle and Pooch гeѕсᴜe in Florida, a volunteer organization that rescues 500 to 600 dogs each year, took him in.
The гeѕсᴜe took him in on December 19 and quickly got to work trying to find him a home, which earned him a profile on December 24 on WESH, an Orlando news station.
After that, Sniffles’ luck changed. At least 100 people have called the shelter to express interest in adopting him and his story continues to spread.
