Until June of last year, the tail length of the cat Cygnus reached nearly 50cm.
Cygnus, the cat living in Ferndale city, Michigan, USA, was listed in the Guinness World Records 2018 as the “cat with the longest living fur in the world”. It is known that in June of last year, Cygnus’ tail was 47cm long, and if you count the fur, it reached 61cm. And at that time, Cygnus was only 1 year old, so it is certain that his fur has grown much longer since then.

One of Cygnus’ two owners, Will Powers, stated that the cat’s fur has surpassed the current world record of 41cm and is continuing to grow longer. It is known that each month, the length of the tail increases by over 1cm, and at a certain point, the fur of the cat began to grow longer than normal. People often affectionately call Cygnus “fluffy broom” or “doorstop” because its tail is very long and soft.
Most of the time, the cat’s tail stands upright or curls up towards its head, resembling a question mark. Cygnus’ owners, Lauren and Will Powers, share that simply by walking around and wagging its tail, Cygnus can clean their house as if it was being swept by the tail itself. However, Cygnus’ long tail also causes some trouble. Every time the owners close a door, they have to be very cautious as the door can get caught on its tail. Additionally, due to the length of its tail, whenever Cygnus lies down, its tail can get dipped into nearby liquids or drinks…
Surprisingly, Cygnus’ older brother, a cat named Arcturus, has also made it onto the Guinness World Records as the tallest cat in the world. Arcturus measures around 50cm in height and weighs approximately 14kg. Both of these cats are beloved and playfully interact with each other.
